Pitched roof reconstruction and roofing concept for an existing building with extension

Abstract

This paper discusses the design of the pitched roof structure of a building complex consisting of an existing building and a newly constructed unit. Following the replacement of the original traditional roof structure of the existing building and its conversion into usable space, the new reinforced concrete coffin slab roof construction is required to preserve the original streetscape and geometry, as well as the material of the original roof covering.

As a consequence, several geometric challenges arise, including interlocking and overlapping roof planes, as well as application-related issues associated with different roofing systems and covering types.
