Abstract

The paper presents a specialized seismic strengthening solution applied to the Hotel Continental in Timișoara: the strengthening of reinforced concrete shear wall coupling beams using steel plates. Structural assessment revealed that the shear capacity of several structural elements did not meet current requirements, therefore an innovative strengthening method was implemented. Steel plates mechanically anchored on one or both sides of the coupling beams significantly increase the load-bearing capacity and ductility of the structure, while allowing fast and high-quality execution.
