The aim of the research was to develop thermoplastic elastomers containing a high amount of ground tire rubber. We used polypropylene matrices with different flowabilities and investigated the effect of the amount and particle size of ground tire rubber. In addition, our research has also explored the potential of devulcanization: devulcanized ground tire rubber was compounded with the thermoplastic polymer phase both on its and by dynamic vulcanization. We showed that the more viscous polypropylene resulted in higher elongation at break and that rubbery behavior dominated as the fraction of ground tire rubber increased.
Kivonat
