Abstract

The topic of this paper is the study of fluid geochemical processes in Sântimbru-Băi area, located in the Southern Harghita, which is part of the Călimani-Gurghiu-Harghita volcanic range. Specifically, it focuses on mapping the CO2 and H2S gas flux of a former mercury mine from the 1970s and examining how the released gases affect the environment. Using a flux meter we obtained an accurate picture of where and to what extent higher concentrations of CO2 and H2S are released in the mining area. Additionally, monitoring the spring waters revealed that the present fluids influence their composition and have an impact on the environment.
