Some thoughts on the dialogue between geologist and civil engineer

The goal of this article is to analyze the role of the geologist in the engineer's design in the rock environment. The two professions have different approaches to problem solving, and consequently in many cases the two professions 'talk' past each other. The geologist thinks in a different time scale, approaches geological questions differently, which the engineer cannot deal with, but at the same time does not get answers to the questions that are essential for the design. The engineering geological model is presented and through an example, the difference between the two disciplines are shown, as well.
