Abstract

The linear stability analysis is a fundamental tool in designing and investigating mechanical systems. The real parts of the eigenvalues of the system matrix determine the stability. However, there are systems where linear stability analysis is not useful in engineering practice. Even in the case of a small disturbance of the equilibrium situation, the system's state changes significantly and returns only after a long time or due to the significant deflection, the neglected non-linear effects can become important, and the system does not return to the investigated equilibrium state at all. The reason for the problem is that the descriptive matrix is not normal, i.e. its eigenvectors are not orthogonal. In these cases, the energy method should be used, which will be presented in the paper.

Kivonat

Gépészeti rendszerek tervezésénél, vizsgálatánál alapvető eszköztár a lineáris stabilitásvizsgálat. Ilyenkor a rendszer mátrixának sajátértékeinek valós részét vizsgáljuk. Előfordulhatnak azonban olyan rendszerek, amiknél a lineáris stabilitásvizsgálat a mérnöki gyakorlatban mégsem hasznos.
