Abstract

Shell porosity is generated mainly by the perforations, that can be found on the test of all planktonic foraminifera. This can be approximated as a percentage of the area occupied by pores versus the total area of the test. However, the function and factors controlling the pores are not fully understood yet. Can they be influenced by environmental parameters? Some studies suggest that they might be linked to the gas exchange. The purpose of this study is to find, test, and prove or dispute these relationships using recent planktonic foraminifera.
