Abstract

Gábor Strömpl, who is quite forgotten nowadays, was one of the best disciple of Sen Lajos Lóczy (1849–1920). Between the two world wars he was seriously involved the timely status and issues of the Hungarian geographical terminology, he published some articles on the subject in the Geographical Bulletin (1928, 1932). His proposals on the issues of the terminology are more valid recently than 70-80 years ago. He urged the accurate definition of the content of the Hungarian technical terms, and for the ones taken from foreign languages he advocated the finding or composing of the corresponding precise Hungarian terms. As a source to indite the Hungarian terminology he proposed the folk nomenclature of Hungarian morphological features, vegetation and place names containing natural geographical indications. Recently, when the world wide web is part of the mass media, all this is more importatnt and necessary than it was in the time of Gábor Strömpl.

Rezumat

Strömpl Gábor, savantul oarecum uitat în zilele noastre, a fost unul dintre cei mai buni studenţi ai lui Lóczy Lajos (1849–1920) cel vârstnic. În câteva dintre publicaţiile sale apărute în Buletinul Geografic din perioada interbelică (1928, 1932), s-a ocupat serios de starea şi problemele limbajului geografic maghiar de specialitate din perioada respectivă. Răspunsurile sale de acum 70-80 de ani, sunt valabile şi în zilele noastre. El sublinia importanţa definirii precise a conţinutului expresiilor maghiare de specialitate, găsirea sau crearea de cuvinte cât mai expresive pentru cuvintele preluate din limbi străine.  Pentru crearea de noi expresii el a indicat ca sursă limbajul popular maghiar privind relieful, vegetaţia, respectiv toponimele maghiare cu conţinut fizico-geografic. Acum, când şi internetul face parte din mass media zilelor noastre, avem mai mare nevoie de aceste recomandări decât în perioada activităţii lui Strömpl Gábor.
