Abstract

The use of hydrogen as an energy source is advantageous because its combustion processes only produce water vapor. The production of hydrogen is possible by electrolysis, which requires only electricity and clean water. In the case when the source of energy used is renewable, the process creates completely carbon-free energy. This produces green hydrogen. Thus, generated excess energy can be stored in underground gas storage facilities, where it is delivered mixed with natural gas. However, it can cause serious leakage problems for plastics, that hydrogen is a much smaller and more mobile molecule than methane.
