Early Pannonian molluscs were systematically collected from the same clayey limestone layer at two sites around Dâmbău (central part of the Transylvanian Basin). The well-preserved inner casts have been attributed to Lymnocardium undatum (Reuss) and confer an early Pannonian age (Congeria banatica profundal mollusc biozone) to the studied assemblage. In order to shade light on the depositional environment and the structure of the population a detailed morphometric study was performed on the selected specimens.
