János Bolyai and the Hungarian Academy of Sciences

Abstract

You have probably noticed that the Hungarian Academy of Sciences (MTA), founded in 1825, as it was called at the time, organized countless valuable events and commemorative scientific conferences for the 200th anniversary of the birth of the Hungarian Society of Scientists, and scientific workshops outside the borders were also given a day to introduce themselves and hold commemorative conferences.

Unfortunately, only the most outstanding and famous scientist was left out of the ranks of the MTA members, and that was János Bolyai! It is a great omission of the MTA that the greatest Hungarian mathematician of all time, János Bolyai, never became a member of the Hungarian Society of Scientists (the MTA). János Bolyai's mathematical work is still decisive today, but we have not yet been able to fully learn, process and understand non-Euclidean geometry.

Kivonat

Bizonyára felfigyeltek arra, hogy az 1825-ben alapított Magyar Tudományos Akadémia (MTA), akkori megnevezés szerint a Magyar Tudós Társaság születésének 200. évfordulójára számtalan értékes rendezvényt, megemlékező tudományos konferenciát rendeztek, és a határokon kívüli tudományos műhelyeknek is egy-egy napot biztosítottak a bemutatkozásra, illetve emlékező konferenciákra.

Sajnos csak a legkiválóbb, leghíresebb tudós maradt ki az MTA tagjai sorából és ez Bolyai János! Az MTA-nak igen nagy mulasztása, hogy minden idők legnagyobb magyar matematikusa, Bolyai János soha sem lett a Magyar Tudós Társaság (az MTA) tagja. Bolyai János matematikai alkotása mai napig meghatározó, de máig sem sikerült teljesen megismerni, feldolgozni és megérteni a nemeuklideszi geometriát.
